The Dutch national team coach will look to replace outgoing centre-backs Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic with a move for Feyenoord pair Bruno Martins Indi and Stefan de Vrij who has been advised by current boss Ronald Koeman, who is set to leave the Rotterdam club this summer, to move on to aid their career progressions.

Van Gaal has discussed possible transfer targets with chief executive Ed Woodward and as well as the defensive additions he also wants to bring in Feyenoord midfielder Jordi Clasie, who is considered the ‘New Xavi’ and is another player who is part of the Netherlands World Cup squad.

Man United could well do with effective creative midfielders with the likes of Tom Cleverley, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini offering very little in that department.

The three targets are all 22 years of age and have a good grounding of experience and are perhaps three of the leading talents currently plying their trade in the Eredivisie and would be welcome additions to help strengthen a Man United squad that has struggled this term.
